London Poppy Day is the flagship fundraising event for the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal. This year it took place on Thursday 31st October.
London Poppy Day raises crucial funds for The Royal British Legion to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families. This one-day street collection mobilises over 1,000 uniformed personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force, along with an additional 1,000 veterans, volunteers, and supporters. The presence and efforts of these individuals are crucial in ensuring the success of the event, allowing for significant fundraising that directly benefits those who have served and their loved ones.
Collections take place from 7am to 7pm at 70 mainline and underground stations and head office locations in London.
At Liverpool Street Station this year, commuters were kept entertained by the wonderful sounds of the Royal Air Force’s Pipes and Drums division.
Today’s volunteers included Network Rail’s Jon, who served seven years in the Royal Engineers (far left). He’s joined above (left to right) by Network Rail’s Mark, 10-year poppy volunteer Satvinder and fellow Royal Engineer Mark.
As usual, the station also welcomed representatives from the British Army’s 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team, from Colchester in Essex.
I do encourage you all to support this most worth campaign and wear your poppy with pride this year. Lest We Forget.
