In April 2022 the City of London Corporation’s Court of Common Council passed a motion relating to Traffic orders, which instructed the Streets and Walkways Committee to review all traffic orders currently in effect on the City’s streets. The outcome of the review indicated that the majority of the 1,299 traffic orders are operating as intended and are in alignment with the relevant Transport Strategy outcomes. However, Councillors agreed for officers to assess if modifications to 67 traffic orders would be beneficial.
One these orders related to Liverpool Street and there has been some discussion around the issues of vehicles loading and unloading in the centre of what is an incredibly busy pedestrian and cycling hub, next to Liverpool Street Station’s taxi rank.
As the picture taken last week shows, commercial vehicles are regularly loading and unloading in the middle of a busy street, causing traffic chaos. City of London Corporation are, therefore, considering restricting loading at the junction of Liverpool Street with Bishopsgate, to ensure everyone can manoeuvre safely.
I have asked Officers to consult with all of the businesses in Liverpool Street to ensure that they have suitable alternative arrangements, or are able to lodge objections to these proposals. You can do that by emailing streetspaceplanning@cityoflondon.gov.uk or by emailing me directly.
