Epping Forest: 50 for 50 Volunteer Challenge!

The team at Epping Forest are excited to launch a new #50for50 volunteering campaign!

They are inviting volunteers – new an old – to step forward and attempt to contribute 50 hours of volunteering over six months, in honour of HRH The Duke of Gloucester’s Golden Jubilee as Ranger of Epping Forest in February 2025.

Volunteers will be asked to log their volunteer hours, from 1 August 2024 to 31 January 2025 (hours can be backdated to August 2024).

Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Epping Forest & Commons Committee, Ben Murphy explained:

“We are blessed to have so many loyal volunteers, contributing enormously to the health and wellbeing of Epping Forest through voluntary activity. This campaign is about challenging our volunteers to register how generous they are with their giving, whilst also encouraging the next generation of volunteers to step forward and challenge themselves to get involved.”

“Our Ranger has generously donated 50 years of service to Epping Forest and it seemed fitting to challenge our volunteers to donate 50 hours in recognition of this milestone”.

“The beauty of this campaign is anyone can get involved, regardless of age of ability. This summer we have hosted a range of events to engage children and young people in litter picking, photography and hands-on conservation activity. We have welcomed new volunteers in our visitor centres, tour guides in our museums and even volunteers helping to care for our herd of longhorn cattle.”

“As a charity, Epping Forest has to generate an income to survive. However, this donation doesn’t have to be financial. If you donate 50 hours of volunteer time, based on UK minimum wage, that equates to a whopping £572 donation to our charity!”

Every volunteer who reaches the 50 hour milestone will receive recognition for their donation.

Whether you’re a long-time volunteer or new to the volunteering community, this campaign is a wonderful way to make a tangible impact. Therefore, we invite you to join us in conserving and protecting London’s great Forest and become a part of this rewarding initiative.
