Bishopsgate: Dame Joan Collins Lights London’s Tallest Christmas Tree

This evening, the Bishopsgate community came together on Bishopsgate Plaza to see renowned actress Dame Joan Collins light London’s tallest Christmas tree, marking the official start to the festive season.

The trees, which stood at a massive 67 foot is the latest edition to the iconic City skyline and boats an impressive 65,000 sparkling lights and over 800 red and gold baubles…I am pleased to report that I didn’t have to decorate the tree myself!

This is a new initiative has been led by the Eastern City Business Improvement District (EC BID), supported by the Pan Pacific Hotel and forms part of their Festival of Light campaign this Christmas.

Upon illumination, the tree lights reflected off of the surrounding glass buildings to really create a hub of light in the heart of the Square Mile. I am pleased to say, it will remain in situ until January, so it can be enjoyed by all and undoubtedly feature in countless family photos in the weeks ahead.

Congratulations to Ironworx Engineering who designed and fabricated the steel framed tree. It’s a great design.

To quote the woman of the hours, Dame Joan Collins, “This tree is far better than the one in Times Square and the tree in Covent Garden this year – it’s wonderful”.
