Bishopsgate: Fatality at Heron Tower

As reported in the Evening Standard, a man died at 2.10pm today, after falling from Heron Tower on Bishopsgate, London.

Whilst it would be inappropriate to comment during the course on an ongoing investigation, I wanted to assure residents and workers that public safety questions are being asked to ensure any vulnerabilities at buildings, public or private, are addressed.

This is an area which the City of London Corporation has taken a pro-active role, publishing Suicide Prevention Guidance in 2022 to inform scheme development which are now integrated in to all planning schemes. Suicide prevention is an important section of all major planning reports and planning policy DE4: Terraces and Elevated Public Spaces on our City Plan 2040 explicitly requires suicide prevention measures to be incorporated in the design of new developments.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the individual involved in this tragic loss of life.

If you are feeling vulnerable at the moment and would like to speak to someone, I would encourage you to contact the Samaritans by dialling 116123. Alternatively, you can chat to them online here.
