Bishopsgate Aldermanic Election – Statement of Persons Nominated

As published in an earlier article, there is to be an election held on Thursday 15th September 2022 to elect a new Alderman to represent the Ward of Bishopsgate in the City of London.

We now know that 3 individuals have submitted valid nominations: Henry Paul Knapman, Eswaraj Ranil Perera and Kawsar Zaman.

UPDATE: 25/08/22 – Eswaraj Ranil Perera has withdrawn their nomination and therefore only 2 candidates will be on the ballot paper in September.

Each candidate will be making contact with voters in Bishopsgate to seek their support in this election. There will also be a Wardmote, which is an ancient term for a meeting of the voters, where people can put questions to each of the candidates at midday on Wednesday 14th September. I know that’s not entirely helpful for those completing postal votes, but do reach out to candidates via their websites above if you have questions.

As the proposer of Henry Knapman’s nomination, it will come as no surprise that I will be supporting him in this election. Henry and I have known each other for 10 years and I have been impressed with his commitment to Bishopsgate throughout this time. He has been active in the Bishopsgate Ward Club, in the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and a range of other voluntary activities including as a local school governor. Professionally, Henry has spent 25 years working in Investment Banking in Liverpool Street, was seconded to work for the financial services regulator and has more recently been advising HM Treasury during Brexit.

I do hope you will consider lending him your support, but do reach out to him if you have anything further you wish to discuss.
